Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy, sometimes called talk therapy, is a collaborative conversation with a trained mental health provider. At Brain Bath, therapeutic support connects with your broader psychiatric care, so your history, current concerns, and treatment goals are considered together. Sessions take place by secure video from a private space where you feel comfortable. You don’t need a polished story. You can begin with what’s on your mind.

Understanding Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy helps you explore the thoughts, emotions, relationships, and experiences that affect your wellbeing. It addresses a different part of care than medication management: where medication reviews symptoms, response, and side effects, therapy explores what is happening in your life and helps you develop insight and coping strategies. Therapeutic support may be part of care for concerns such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, OCD, bipolar disorder, and panic symptoms. When both are appropriate, a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner considers how they can support your individual goals.
What Your Sessions Will Look Like
- Bring What’s on Your Mind
Start with a recent experience, a recurring feeling, or something you’re trying to understand. If you’re not sure what to talk about, that’s okay too. Your provider helps you find a starting point, and early conversations clarify your story, concerns, and goals.
- Explore What’s Underneath
Together we notice connections between situations, thoughts, feelings, and responses. We consider which patterns are helping and which may be making things harder, whether that is stress, conflict in relationships, grief, or the emotional weight of a health condition.
- Find Something to Carry Forward
Each conversation aims to leave you with a perspective or practical approach you can bring into daily life, such as a coping strategy, a different way of responding, or a clearer next step. Your provider guides the discussion while making room for what feels most relevant to you.
- Adjusting the Focus Together
Over time, we check in on what’s useful and adjust the focus as your needs change. Before each visit, it can help to note what has stayed on your mind, choose a quiet, private place, and check your internet, camera, and microphone before connecting.

Sessions focus on approaches you can use between visits, from handling worry and burnout to setting boundaries and communicating more clearly.
